Clare SES Open Day to attract new volunteers
The South Australian State Emergency Service (SES), together with the SA Ambulance Service (SAAS) and Country Fire Service (CFS), are holding a joint Open Day in Clare on Saturday, 28 March 2026, aimed at recruiting new volunteers to help the local community during emergencies.
The Open Day will be held from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm at the Clare SES Unit, 42 New Road, Clare. Attendees will have the opportunity to view emergency vehicles, meet local volunteers, and gain insight into the vital work undertaken by these agencies.
SES Mid North District Officer David Pritchard said the event aims to strengthen local volunteer numbers for both the SES and SAAS, ensuring continued support for the community during emergencies.
“People considering volunteering with the SES, SAAS and CFS will be able to see first-hand the equipment we use, learn about the work we do and speak directly with volunteers about their experiences,” Mr Pritchard said.
In Clare, SES volunteers assist with storm damage, general and road crash rescues, land searches, and provide support to other emergency services. Volunteers receive nationally accredited training at no cost and are not required to attend every callout or training session.
The SES operates 70 units across SA, with other units located across the Mid North region in Burra, Hallett, Kapunda, Laura, Saddleworth, Spalding and Booleroo Centre. In 2025, these Mid North units responded to 380 requests for assistance.
For people interested in joining the SES but can’t attend the Open Day, the SES are also holding an information session on Thursday, 9 April at 6.30 pm at the Clare SES Unit.
