The SA State Emergency Service (SASES) is committed to supporting our communities to better understand what they can do before, during and after an extreme weather event.
Our community engagement team works with government, community and not-for-profit organisations to develop programs to build resilient communities.
Working in partnership we help implement programs such as resilient leaders to build resilience in communities, and programs for those most at risk in our communities.
Community Engagement Strategic Directions
Over the next five years the SASES will implement a strategic plan, working with communities and other strategic partners to build disaster resilience.
Our climate is changing and extreme weather events such as floods, storms and heatwaves are increasing in frequency and severity. There is a need for people to have the knowledge and practical support to make safe decisions and act with confidence before, during and after an emergency.
Our engagement activities will put people at the centre of preparing for an emergency. We have a range of practical tools including; brochures for general information, checklists to start taking action and fact sheets for more detail. This will help you to plan for and act during extreme weather and flooding events.

Educational resources
The Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience has developed an Education for Young People program.
The program focuses on developing and implementing a consistent national approach to basic disaster resilience for primary and secondary school students. The program includes a range of teaching resources focusing on both individual and community resilience, in relation to a range of hazards.
