Roof donated by TAFE SA

Due to the innovative idea from TAFE SA and SES volunteer Andrew Dewis, SES took delivery of its sixth donated roof from the Marleston Campus to Propect Unit.

The roof constructions are used to give our SES volunteers practical experience of walking on a storm damaged roof.

How well do people know the SA SES

Research was recently conducted on behalf of SES to ascertain the public awareness of the State Emergency Service and what we do.

Four hundred adults from 40 different locations within the Adelaide metropolitan area were surveyed. The participants were selected based on the Australian Bureau of Statistics overall population figures of South Australia considering the % of males, females, age and occupation etc.

Each person was asked the following questions:

  1. When you think of damage caused to your home or other property by Storm and Flood, who would you call for help?

  2. Have you heard of the State Emergency Service? If so, what do you believe they do?
Over 62% of all people surveyed answered, without prompting, that they would call SES if there was damage to their property caused by storm or flood. The survey also revealed that only 14 people from the whole 400 had not heard of the SES (4%).
Who is SES
There were an additional 12 people who were not sure what type of work the SES does. However, well over 200 people did know that we are a volunteer organisation and provide assistance with storm emergencies or disasters. Most of the other people who were surveyed answered with a variety of correct responses such as searches etc.
Have you heard of SES

SES can now use the information from this survey to ensure that they target their advertising to further raise the public awareness of this service and our volunteers.

SA Great Campaign honours our SES Volunteers

SES would like to thank SA Great for their recognition of the work that all of our wonderful volunteers do 7 days a week 24 hours a day. The latest SA Great media campaign is called "Now and in the Future" which is based on volunteering in South Australia.

The campaign features two SA Great 'young achievers' and one of them is our own SES Volunteer, Stefanie from the Tea Tree Gully Unit. The media campaign includes both press features and outdoor posters such as the one pictures right.
